Ansdell Library temporarily shuts its doors to undergo makeover

Ansdell Library in Lytham St Annes will close from today, Monday 6 February, as it undergoes a long-awaited makeover.

The building is being fully recarpeted, replacing the carpet that has been in the building since it first opened, and will see the window frames repainted to give it a fresh look.

To complete these works, the library will need to close temporarily as the library and offices will need to be cleared of all furniture, which will go into temporary storage.

Extensive work must also be carried out on the floor before the new carpet is fitted.

Ansdell Library will reopen on Monday 27 February.

Users of the library have been informed of the closure, in addition to the arrangements for loans during the period that the library is closed.

All books issued from Ansdell Library since the 16 January will have an extended return date of 27 February. Any fines/charges incurred during the period of the closure will be waived.

County Councillor Peter Buckley, cabinet member for community and cultural services, said: "Our libraries are used by lots of people in the community and some are now showing their age.

"It's important that we do what we can to maintain and improve those libraries that need it most and that's why we are investing in the improvements at Ansdell Library.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and I hope you visit us again when we reopen in a few weeks' time.

"In the meantime, you can still access a huge variety of items through our digital offering, or you can visit one of our other brilliant libraries.
