Apply for a primary school place in Lancashire before January deadline
Families across Lancashire are being urged to submit their applications for primary school places before the fast-approaching deadline of Thursday 15 January 2026.
Applying online through Lancashire County Council's website is the quickest and easiest way to apply for a place.
The online system will remain open for applications until 11:59pm on Wednesday 15 January for all those applying for a primary school place.
All applications received up to the closing date are given equal priority. If you apply after the deadline, this may harm your chance of getting your preferred school.
Parents should fill in all of the preferences because if they only select their first-choice school, their options will be limited if that school isn't available. Families are encouraged to check their preferred schools' admission criteria before applying.
It’s also vital that families check their child’s home‑to‑school transport arrangements early, so they understand what support is available and whether they may be eligible for free or assisted travel.
Councillor Matthew Salter, cabinet member for Education and Skills, said:
"Starting school is a big milestone for every child, and we want to make the process as straightforward as possible for families. Applying on time gives you the best chance of securing a place at one of your preferred schools. Please take a few minutes to complete the application online and make full use of the preferences available.
“It’s also important that families who need home‑to‑school transport take a look at the arrangements as early as possible, so they understand if they are eligible for support and can make sure everything is in place when their child starts school.”
Parents whose children attend Lancashire schools or academies, but live in another local authority area, should apply via the local authority where they live.
School place offers will be issued on Thursday 16 April 2026.
Your child may be able to get free transport to school, depending on how far the walk is. There is also support for families on low incomes. For more information visit School transport - Lancashire County Council
