Appointment of a new Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire

A new Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire has been appointed.

The current Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Mrs Christine Kirk DL, will retire today, 7 August 2024.

Mrs Amanda Parker JP, the Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire has, with The King's approval, appointed Brigadier (Retired) Peter Rafferty MBE DL to take on this role and he will serve a three-year term with effect from 8 August 2024. 

Brigadier Rafferty was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Lancashire in 2019 and currently serves as a member of the Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund Advisory Panel.  As Vice Lord-Lieutenant he will act as Mrs Parker's deputy in representing His Majesty The King in Lancashire. He is also Chairman of the Lancashire Army Benevolent Fund Committee.

Brigadier Rafferty served over 30 years as a Regular Infantry Officer in The King’s Regiment and on amalgamation, the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment.  He served as Colonel of the Regiment from 2013-2018 having retired from the British Army in 2014.  He is currently President of Galvion UK Ltd - a global supplier of soldier worn protective, power and electronic equipment.

He has two daughters and lives with his wife, Joanne, in Stainton, and his interests include Veteran Affairs and Military Charities, Military Heritage and Defence Industrial Collaboration.
