Bus gate enforcement set to begin on North Road, Lancaster
A new bus gate enforcement camera will come into operation on North Road, Lancaster from next week.
The camera has been installed to manage the existing bus gate and help keep traffic moving while supporting more reliable bus services in the area.
Enforcement will commence from 1 June 2026. Initially, warning notices will be issued to allow drivers to adopt different routes. After this, Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) may be issued to drivers who enter the bus gate when they shouldn’t.
Alternative routes are available for general traffic, and drivers are advised to check signage carefully and plan their journeys before travelling through the area.
County Councillor Warren Goldsworthy, cabinet member for Highways and Transport at Lancashire County Council, said:
“This scheme is designed to keep traffic moving and make bus journeys more reliable for the people who depend on them.
“By reducing unnecessary traffic at this location, we can help improve journey times and support public transport in Lancaster.
“We’re asking drivers to take note of the signage and follow the restrictions so they can avoid receiving a penalty.”
