Lancaster Park and Ride-3

Changes to Lancaster Park and Ride service from 6 July

Changes to the Lancaster Park and Ride service are due to come into effect from July.

The bus service, known as Service L1, is operated by Lonsdale Buses on behalf of Lancashire County Council.

At present, the NHS funds a second bus to support staff travelling to and from the Royal Lancaster Infirmary. This funding agreement is coming to an end.

As a result, from Monday 6 July 2026, the service will operate less frequently during the day, running up to every 30 minutes from Monday to Saturday. Fares for the service will also change from July, with the flat day return revised to £2.50, with the usual group and weekly discounts and concessions available.

The service will continue to run between the Caton Road Park and Ride site near the M6 Junction 34, Lancaster city centre and the Royal Lancaster Infirmary. The route, as well as the times of the first and last buses, will remain unchanged.

Parking at the Caton Road Park and Ride site will remain free, with around 650 spaces available, offering people the option to park outside the city centre and complete their journey by bus.

County Councillor Warren Goldsworthy, cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said:

“The Lancaster Park and Ride service will continue to operate throughout the day and follow the same route, providing an important connection between Caton Road, the city centre and the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

“The changes reflect the end of NHS funding for the additional vehicle that allowed the service to run more frequently.

"These changes are needed to ensure the service remains viable for the many people who rely on it, while continuing to offer good value.”
