Coaches remain welcome in Clitheroe following bus service improvements
Coach operators and visitors are being reassured that coaches remain welcome in Clitheroe and can continue to drop off and pick up passengers at the town's interchange.
The clarification follows concerns that coaches were no longer able to use the interchange for day trips to the town.
There has been no change to the arrangements for dropping off and collecting passengers, with coaches able to use stand one at the interchange.
Coaches are not permitted to remain parked at the interchange for several hours while passengers visit Clitheroe. In practice, some coaches have previously done so without causing operational issues. However, recent improvements to local bus services mean all of the stands are now needed for scheduled services.
The changes, which came into effect on 25 October, include a new direct service between Clitheroe and Colne as well as other improvements to local services.
County Councillor Warren Goldsworthy, cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said:
"Clitheroe is a fantastic place to visit and we want to reassure people that coaches and their passengers remain very welcome.
"Coach operators can continue to drop people off at the interchange and return to collect them at the end of their visit, as they have done previously.
"The interchange is primarily there to serve scheduled bus services, and coaches aren't able to park there for several hours while passengers visit the town.
"We hope this clears up any confusion and reassures coach operators that they can continue bringing visitors to Clitheroe."
