Contractor appointed for Haslingden Old Road repairs following major landslip
A contractor has been appointed to deliver the next stage of the complex repair project on Haslingden Old Road, marking a significant step forward following the major landslip that led to the road’s closure.
The appointment follows a robust tendering process and allows the project to move into a detailed design phase ahead of construction. Lancashire County Council has been working on the scheme throughout, carrying out surveys, stabilisation and other preparatory work to ensure the most appropriate long‑term solution can be delivered.
The repair will use an innovative reinforced earth retaining wall, which engineers believe delivers a safe and durable long‑term repair while offering good value for money for a project of this scale and complexity.
A provisional programme is now in place, with work on site currently expected to start in July, subject to the completion of the design work and the securing of the necessary environmental consents, including flood risk approval.
The council’s aim remains to complete the works during 2026, however Haslingden Old Road presents a significant engineering challenge and timescales will remain subject to factors such as ground conditions and weather.
