Councillors agree to freeze their allowances

Councillors have voted to freeze their allowances, after a motion was put forward in yesterday's Full Council meeting by Councillor Ged Mirfin, cabinet member for Resources, HR and Property.

The motion was carried after a named vote which saw 75 councillors in favour of the motion and three abstentions.

Cllr Stephen Atkinson, Leader of Lancashire County Council, said:

"We made the decision to vote against increasing our allowances, which will save the authority £92,000.

"We believe this is the right thing to do given the current economic climate, and with many residents facing extra financial pressure.

"We’re here to serve our community, and that means being careful with public money.

"Our focus is on delivering services that matter and ensuring that every pound we spend helps improve life for residents."
