Crowdfund Lancashire: 100 projects backed as summer funding round nears

Crowdfund Lancashire – which has helped fund more than 100 culture and sports projects since it launched in 2022 – will open its summer funding round next month.

This exciting funding initiative helps the county council to support grassroot culture and sports projects across Lancashire, through crowdfunding.

Crowdfund Lancashire is developed by Lancashire County Council, working in partnership with Spacehive, the UK’s leading community fundraising platform.

Crowdfund Lancashire summer round 2024 opens on 12th June and closes on 12th September

If you have an idea that will improve the culture or sport offer in your community, you could get up to £15,000 towards your target. These can be exiting projects that will benefit from funding or simply ideas that you want turn into reality.

Through the County Council's £500,000 Lancashire Culture & Sport Fund, Crowdfund Lancashire, we will support those projects that reach 50% of their funding target with a pledge.

The Birley – an artist led studios and project space based in Preston – raised £28,307 for their 'Bringing New Art to Preston' project.

Rob Mullender-Ross from The Birley said: "The work we have achieved in the last year has put us in better standing and given us greater visibility within the city, helping us to maintain a foothold within the 'Harris Quarter' of the city - now being developed by the council into the city's main cultural neighbourhood.

"This program of exhibitions and events has provided us with a platform from which we can now credibly fundraise in the future."

Erin Singleton raised £14,784 to support her Blue Flamingo Café, which supports people with dementia and their carers through creative projects.

"I was pleasantly surprised by the support I received from Crowdfund Lancashire in setting up the fundraising campaign for our group," Erin said.

"There was always someone available to help answer questions and provide guidance, which helped eased my anxieties about navigating the process - especially as I was completely new to doing this type of thing.

"The money we were able to raise through Crowdfund Lancashire helped us to expand our programming and gain traction in the community."

County Councillor Peter Buckley, cabinet member for Community and Cultural Services, said:

"Crowdfund Lancashire and the culture and sport projects it supports has already made a significant impact to the lives of people living throughout the county.

"I'm proud that we have helped over 100 grassroots projects and we will continue to do this as we welcome new applications for our summer funding round.

"If you have a culture or sport project that needs funding then we want to hear from you."

Anyone interested in launching a project finding out how to launch a crowdfunding campaign is invited to attend the online summer round launch event.
