Essential repairs to be carried out at Coppull library
Library users are being encouraged to visit Coppull library's temporary home while the building is closed for essential repair work.
A new roof is being fitted at the library which means the building will be closed from midday on Thursday 30 October for approximately four months.
Once this essential work is complete, the building – which is at the heart of the local community – can continue to provide a welcoming space for visitors.
The County Council has secured a temporary home at Coppull Village Hall, a short distance away on Chapel Lane, for the duration of the work. The venue is fully accessible, with a lift available.
People who visit the Village Hall will be able to browse a selection of books for both adults and children and use free WIFI to connect their own devices to the internet.
Staff at the temporary library will also be able to reserve and order books from other libraries in Lancashire for people to collect for free at Coppull Village Hall. This service is normally charged at 90 pence per book.
Events for babies and toddlers such as bounce and rhyme and story time will continue in the Village Hall as well as the popular crochet and chat group for adults.
The Friends of Coppull Library, which is run by volunteers, will also continue to run events at the Village Hall, which will be advertised on their Facebook page.
The temporary library provision will start at 9am on Monday 3 November at Coppull Village Hall with the following opening times:
Monday: 9am – 5pm
Tuesday: 9am – 5pm
Wednesday: Closed
Thursday: 9am – 2pm
Friday: 9am - 5pm
Saturday: Closed
There are also several nearby alternative libraries that will offer our full library service. These are Chorley, Adlington, Eccleston and Euxton libraries.
Councillor Matthew Salter, cabinet member for Education and Skills, said:
"We know how important Coppull Library is to our residents, not just as a place to borrow books, but as a vital hub for learning, connection, and community support.
"We would encourage people to make use of the temporary library in Coppull Village Hall or to use another nearby library, while these essential repairs are carried out. We appreciate your patience while this work is taking place."
