Extra Care scheme to open in Lancaster

The scheme, developed in partnership with Progress Housing and Lancaster City Council, is designed to support independent living, while having care and support available 24/7 to those who need it.

People who have a care need are assessed by Lancashire County Council and Willowbrook, ensuring they receive the right level of care and support to meet their individual needs, both now and in the future.

Located on former University of Cumbria land, St Martin’s Court has been designed to blend with the surrounding area while delivering high quality, energy efficient apartments that respond to the changing housing needs of people across the Lancaster district.

Importantly, the development also preserves part of the site’s historic character. Two former military barracks buildings, later used by the University of Cumbria, have been carefully converted into additional one and two-bedroom apartments for affordable housing, helping retain a valued element of the site’s heritage while creating new homes for the local community. The scheme has been built by award-winning Caddick Construction.

The allocations process will be managed by a joint team from Progress Housing Group, Lancaster City Council and Lancashire County Council. Willowbrook Care has been commissioned by Lancashire County Council to provide onsite care, with support tailored to each tenant and available 24 hours a day.
