Friendships formed as residents settle into their new homes
Residents have enjoyed a street party and curry nights together after moving into a development near Brierfield.
The seven brand-new fully accessible two-bedroom bungalows are on a quiet cul-de-sac and were built to support 14 people with learning disabilities to live more independently.
James and Raymond live together in one bungalow and have developed a friendship. They are also hoping to get a pet rabbit together.
James said:
"I like it. I go for walks and I know Raymond now, I’ve got used to him.
"I like the garden. I am safer here because there's no stairs."
This development was the result of a successful collaboration between Lancashire County Council, Alternative Futures Group and Empower Housing Association.
Councillor Graham Dalton, cabinet member for Adult Social Care, said:
"It was great to meet James and some of the other people who are absolutely thriving now they have moved into this development.
"There's a strong community developing here and it was great to see how busy the residents are with volunteering roles, going swimming and enjoying ballroom dancing.
"This is exactly what these developments are designed to do; support people to live independently and live their best life.
"Facilities such as these also provide assurances to friends and family that their loved ones are safe, while being encouraged to live their lives independently and with lots of fun activities."
