Lancashire pupils thanked and congratulated on GCSE results day

Pupils across Lancashire have been thanked and congratulated for all their hard work, as they receive their GCSE results today.

This year group is the first to sit formal exams since the start of the pandemic. As such, overall grades are expected to be lower than 2020 and 2021, when grades were based on teachers' assessments.

County Councillor Jayne Rear, Lancashire County Council's cabinet member for education and skills, said pupils in Lancashire should be "justifiably proud of themselves."

Cllr Rear said: "Our ambition in Lancashire is for all children and young people to reach their full potential, regardless of where their starting point is.

"Maintaining those high standards was always going to be a difficult task for this year group, who are the first to sit formal exams since the start of the pandemic.

"Our GCSE results this year demonstrate the incredible resilience our pupils have shown throughout the pandemic, and they deserve to be justifiably proud of themselves.

"I'd like to congratulate and thank our pupils for all their hard work, and I would also like to thank our teaching staff for supporting our children through this immensely challenging period."

Young people are urged to contact the college or further education provider they had planned to attend if they did not receive the grades they needed, to discuss the options available to them.

They can also contact Talkzone, in confidence, for advice and support. Young people can call Talkzone on 0800 511 111, text on 07786 511 111 or email talkzone@lancashire.gov.uk
