Haslingden Old Road on course to reopen this year as major repair project continues
A major project to repair Haslingden Old Road following a landslip is entering its final stages, with the road on course to reopen before the end of the year.
The B6236 Haslingden Old Road has been closed since January 2025 following a landslip which caused the collapse of a retaining wall and part of the carriageway, displacing several thousand tonnes of earth.
The challenging ground conditions made the scheme a complex engineering project, with extensive surveys, design work and site preparation required before work could begin.
Since the landslip occurred, Lancashire County Council and their contractor, CML, have shifted around 6000 tonnes of material.
Construction started in July and since then, significant progress has been made on the new reinforced earth retaining wall, which will carry the damaged section of highway.

County Councillor Warren Goldsworthy, cabinet member for Highways and Transport, visited the site this month, alongside Charles Mortimer, Managing Director of CML, the contractor appointed to carry out the work, to see first-hand the progress being made.
Councillor Goldsworthy said:
"It's great to see construction under way and the project progressing well.
"This has been a complex engineering challenge, but significant progress is being made and we're on track to complete the works and fully reopen the road by the end of the year.
"We know how important this route is to local residents, businesses and road users, and we'd like to thank everyone for their continued patience while this work takes place.
"Our focus is on delivering a safe, long-term solution that will serve the community for many years to come."
