Have your say on plans to establish a new primary school in Goosnargh
A public consultation over plans to establish a new primary school on the former Whittingham Hospital site in Goosnargh has been launched.
The informal consultation will run from Monday 12th June 2023 until 5pm on Sunday 9th July 2023. A formal consultation is expected later in the year.
The school would, over time, provide up to 420 places which would accommodate rising pupil numbers as a result of housing development in the area and an increase in the birth rate.
It is proposed that the new school would operate as a 'free school' and would open from September 2025.
A public engagement event is being held at Longridge Library on Thursday 15th June 2023. Officers from Lancashire County Council will be available between 4.00pm and 6.00pm to answer any queries regarding the new Primary School.
County Councillor Jayne Rear, Lancashire County Council's cabinet member for education and skills, said: "Establishing a new primary school on the former Whittingham Hospital site will create the necessary places needed in Goosnargh to meet demand.
"We're now seeking views from residents on the plans through an informal consultation. There will also be an opportunity to comment on the plans as part of a formal consultation, which is expected later this year."
