Lancashire to celebrate achievements of children and young people in special ceremony

The Lancashire County Council PROUD Awards are back. The awards, which recognise the positive choices and achievements of children and young people who experience care in Lancashire, were last held in 2019 and will take place at Burnley Football Club from 6pm-10pm on Thursday 30 March 2023.

Nominations are now open with six categories to choose from, including a category for professionals who work with children and young people.

County Councillor Cosima Towneley, Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said: "The PROUD Awards are a wonderful way to acknowledge the achievements of our children, young people and the professionals who support them.

"Children, young people and care leavers often face unique challenges, and we can learn a great deal from their resilience, determination and successes.

"Nominations are now open, so if there is a child, young person or professional you have been inspired by, are proud of, or simply want to recognise, please get your nomination to us by 13 January 2023."

The six categories are as follows:

Proud+ - a category for staff and volunteers, requested by children and young people to show recognition for the support they provide.

Positive choices and achievements – to identify children and young people who have made choices for themselves that help improve their personal lives in everyday situations.

Responding to the needs of others – this award recognises those who have helped someone or improved the lives of others.

Outstanding service to the community – a category to identify those who have made a significant contribution to their communities or local environment.

U R Talented – recognising children and young people who have a talent they have nurtured and shared.

Danny Collins Inspiration Award – a young man called Danny Collins was nominated posthumously for the award in 2014, and it was felt that it was fitting to rename this category in his memory. This award is about children and young people who have done something amazing or inspirational.

If you are nominating a child or young person, you can nominate as an individual or a staff team.

You can nominate individuals or whole groups of children and young people in care or care leavers aged 0-25 years old.

You can also nominate children you are not currently working with, provided you worked with them up to 12 months ago.

If you are nominating a professional, this can be a staff member or a volunteer who supports children and young people who are looked after aged 0-25 years old, or care leavers.
