Lancashire to celebrate young people leaving care during National Care Leavers' Week

The week is a chance to showcase the achievements of care leavers and look at how their experiences, and those of future care leavers, can be improved.

A roundtable discussion will take place on Monday 24 October to mark the start of Care Leavers' Week, where care leavers, professionals and local councillors will come together to talk about what community means to them.

County Councillor Cosima Towneley, Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said: "Leaving care can be a challenging time for young people in Lancashire. This week is a chance to hear about our care leavers' experiences, celebrate their successes and learn from them to shape the way we support them in the future.

"We have an exciting week of events ahead of us, and I am looking forward to exploring this year's theme of 'What does community mean to you?' with our care experienced young people and the dedicated professionals who work alongside them.

"I'd encourage anyone keen to learn about the experiences of care leavers to join our discussion on Monday 24 October."

All other activities during Care Leavers' Week are for young people to attend and the registration for young people is now closed.

Practitioners can join the roundtable session on Monday 24 October at 2.30pm by registering. Registration is open until 9am on the day - to secure a place, please email careleaverweek2022@Lancashire.gov.uk.
