Prestigious Honours Presentation at Lancaster Castle

On Friday 24th April, the historic setting of Lancaster Castle will host a prestigious Honours ceremony.

In the magnificent Shire Hall, the Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire, Mrs Amanda Parker, will be presenting British Empire Medals (BEM) on behalf of His Majesty The King to recipients from Lancashire commended in the recent New Year Honours List for services to their local community.

Among the recipients are:

Mrs Angela Buss, Chair of Blackpool Revoe Big Local, whose tireless commitment has helped strengthen and support the heart of the Blackpool community.

Mrs Julie Fitzpatrick, Project Manager at the Department for Work and Pensions, will be celebrated for her outstanding dedication to both local and national cancer care, improving the lives of countless individuals and families.

From the British Transport Police, Mr Thomas Gilmour, Police Community Support Officer, is being honoured for his vital work in promoting and enhancing railway safety.

The ceremony will also recognise Captain David McNamee, a highly respected figure in Slaidburn and the Hodder Valley, whose service has made a lasting impact on rural community life.

Mrs Dawn Taylor will be acknowledged for her devoted service to the people of Rossendale.

Mr Simon Walsh, Procurement Director and Joint Greater Manchester Procurement Lead at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, will be honoured for his exceptional contributions to the NHS and charitable initiatives.

Completing this distinguished group is Colonel (Rtd) David Waters TD, President of the Lancashire Armed Forces Association, whose voluntary service has provided steadfast support to veterans across the county.

In addition to this year’s recipients, the event will also welcome Miss Emma Jackson, a British Empire Medallist from the 2020 Birthday Honours. Having been unable to receive her award at the time due to the Covid‑19 pandemic, Miss Jackson will finally be formally recognised for her outstanding service to the Blackpool community during the Covid‑19 emergency.

Mrs Parker said: "It is an honour to present the British Empire Medals on behalf of His Majesty King Charles III to these distinguished Lancashire recipients. Their dedication, exceptional service, and invaluable contributions have made a lasting impact on our communities. Today we celebrate not only their achievements, but the positive difference they continue to make across our county."

Joining Mrs Parker on the evening will be the new High Sheriff of Lancashire, Mr David Collinge; the Constable of the Castle, Mrs Pam Barker, the Chairman of Lancashire County Council, Alf Clempson; Mr Mark Wynn, Clerk to the Lancashire Lieutenancy and Chief Executive of the County Council and the Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Brigadier (Retd) Peter Rafferty, as well as friends and family of the medal recipients and a number of Deputy Lieutenants from across the county.

About the British Empire Medal (BEM):

The BEM rewards an achievement or contribution of a 'hands-on' service to the community in a local geographical area.

This might take the form of sustained commitment in support of local charitable and/or voluntary activity, or innovative work that has delivered real impact.

At all levels, awards illuminate areas of dedicated service which merit public recognition.
