Safeguarding Adults Week set to launch in Lancashire
A vital campaign encouraging adults in Lancashire to stay safe and well is set to be launched.
Lancashire Safeguarding Adults Week will see organisations like the Lancashire Safeguarding Adults Board, charities and other partners joining forces from November 20 to 24 as part of a nationwide campaign to promote the importance of safeguarding and physical and mental wellbeing.
Safeguarding is the principle of living free from abuse and neglect, including self-neglect, according to the Lancashire Safeguarding Adults Board. It defines wellbeing as crucial aspects of everyday life like mental and physical health, relationships, community connections and playing a part in society.
Aimed at promoting the importance of linking safeguarding and wellbeing, the week will see a range of measures including webinars, podcasts and collaborative working between organisations to remind people of vital steps to take.
These include advice on what to do if you're concerned about a vulnerable adult, identifying abuse, why safeguarding is important and what happens when you raise a safeguarding concern.
Lancashire Safeguarding Adults Week comes hot on the heels of a package of measures aimed at supporting vulnerable people in Lancashire.
These include the return of the council's winter Warm Spaces, the Affordable Warmth Scheme and the council's Adult Social Care Winter Plan 2023-24, working with the NHS and partners to tackle challenges across the health and social care sectors in the coming cold months.
County Councillor Graham Gooch, Lancashire County Council's cabinet member for Adult Social Care, said: "Safeguarding Adults Week is an essential time for organisations to come together to raise awareness of important safeguarding issues.
"We're offering vital advice on what to do if you're concerned about a vulnerable adult, identifying abuse, why safeguarding is important and how to encourage people to look out for each other.
"Good safeguarding means looking out for others and yourself, and we will be working with partner organisations very closely to promote the importance of both wellbeing and safeguarding, and combined with our package of winter support, we will be helping people in Lancashire to stay safe and well."
