Statement following Full Council discussion on highways performance
The cabinet member for highways and transport has issued a statement following the discussion at Full Council of highways performance data.
County Councillor Warren Goldsworthy, cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said:
“We know the condition of too many of Lancashire’s roads wasn’t good enough following last winter.
“There were figures quoted by other councillors at Full Council and by the media which are not accurate.
"The inaccurate data was due to changes to contractor reporting processes in September 2025, which coincided with the transition to a new asset management system and affected the accuracy of performance data between September 2025 and March 2026.
“The data accuracy has now been resolved, and our latest performance reporting shows strong overall highways performance across a range of measures.
“Last month cabinet approved a further £10 million for highways maintenance, taking our total investment in Lancashire’s roads in 2026/27 to £88.9 million.
“We know there’s more to do, and we’re getting on with the job of improving our roads and preparing them for winter.”
