County of Lancashire to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a special service
At 4 pm on Sunday 11th May, Blackburn Cathedral will host a very special County service to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of the War in Europe - VE Day.
To mark this historic and important occasion, His Majesty's Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire, Amanda Parker, and the Bishop of Blackburn, The Right Reverend Philip North, will be joined by members of the Lancashire Lieutenancy, civic dignitaries, veterans, representatives from the Royal British Legion and a wide range of organisations involved with the armed forces.
Prior to the service, a parade led by the Band of the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment with the Band of the Lancashire Artillery Volunteers, will take place through Blackburn Town Centre, which will involve cadets, scouts and guides from organisations across the county.
The service will pay tribute to all armed forces members who fought bravely, those who sacrificed their lives, and the families and communities who mourned their loss.
It will also celebrate those who returned home with pride, joy, and hope for the future as well as honouring those who worked courageously behind the scenes. It will be a fitting acknowledgement of bravery, justice and peace.
