Whalley Road improvements deliver smoother journeys for residents
Residents and businesses in Clitheroe are benefiting from improved road conditions following the completion of a resurfacing scheme on Whalley Road.
More than 20,000 square metres of road surface has been renewed on Whalley Road – one of the main routes in and out of Clitheroe – between the traffic lights at Barrow and Greenacre Street.
County Councillor Warren Goldsworthy, cabinet member for Highways and Transport and Clitheroe County Councillor, said the completed scheme will make a real difference to residents and everyone who uses this busy route.
Drainage issues identified along the route were also repaired before resurfacing work began, helping to improve the long-term condition of the road.
The scheme also used specialist paving techniques to create a smoother road surface and help the improvements last longer.
The work was carried out overnight to minimise disruption for residents, businesses and road users.
County Councillor Goldsworthy said:
"Whalley Road is one of the main routes in and out of Clitheroe, so keeping it in good condition is essential for the people who rely on it every day.
"This investment has improved the road surface and will help make journeys smoother for the many people who use this route.
"It's one of a number of schemes we're delivering across Lancashire to keep roads in better condition and make journeys easier and safer for residents."
The scheme is part of Lancashire County Council's wider investment in highways, with £72 million being invested this year to improve and maintain roads across the county. An additional £5 million has also recently been approved to help improve road conditions more quickly and carry out repairs before roads deteriorate further.
Alongside this, the county council continues to carry out day-to-day repairs across the network. Repairs are now around three times larger than before, helping to strengthen roads and reduce the likelihood of potholes returning.
