Work starts on new supported living scheme in Lytham St Annes

The scheme will provide nine self-contained and accessible apartments to support independent living, with communal areas, a garden area, wet rooms, and accommodation for staff to provide 24-hour care and support. The support for tenants will be provided by Swanton Care.

Due to be completed in summer 2027, the scheme is being developed by one of the UK's largest providers of supported living accommodation, RWP, in partnership with Lancashire County Council (LCC).

RWP’s Director of Growth and Partnerships Nicola Byrne and RWP’s Managing Director Les Warren were recently joined by Lancashire County Councillor Martyn Sutton to take a tour of the site and mark the start of the work.

RWP’s Managing Director Les Warren said:

"We hope that the tenants who move in here will benefit from being in an accessible location. Importantly, they will be able to live independently here with support from the appointed support provider, Swanton Care.

“It is very important nowadays that schemes like this are energy efficient, too. That is why we will be installing up-to-to date energy efficient technology, such as air source heat pumps, which help. This helps to make sure the carbon impact is reduced.” 

County Councillor Tom Pickup, cabinet member for Adult Social Care, said: 

"It's fantastic to see work starting, to build apartments which will allow people to live safely and as independently as possible, with the reassurance that support is available whenever they need it.

"People who live in similar developments across Lancashire have formed strong friendships and become an important part of the local community and I can't wait to visit when the work is complete."

As part of Lancashire County Council’s Housing with Care and Support Strategy, LCC is modernising its offer of supported living and is looking to build more apartments and bungalows, so people can have their own front door to help them to live as independently as possible.
