Visitors enjoying one of last year's Fun Palace events

Free, family-friendly activities at Lancashire's 'Fun Palaces' this weekend

Thousands of people are expected to try new activities as 20 of Lancashire's libraries and buildings are filled with slime, LEGO and dancers this weekend.

They're being transformed into 'Fun Palaces' on Saturday, October 4 and Sunday, October 5, as part of an annual programme of events to get people of all ages involved, using arts, crafts, science, technology and digital skills.

Fun activities on offer include LEGO robotics, children's shield-making sessions, family yoga, T'ai Chi sessions, slime making, Caribbean Carnival crafts, Ukrainian crafts and culture sessions, Bollywood dancing, colouring, wordsearches, making bookmarks and treasure hunts too.

Outside Gawthorpe Hall, Galliard dancers will bring the 17th century to life with period country dancing.

Events are being planned at 20 of Lancashire's libraries along with Clitheroe Castle Museum, Gawthorpe Hall in Padiham and Lancashire Archives in Preston.

There is no need to book, and all the events and activities are free.

Councillor Matthew Salter, cabinet member for Education and Skills, said:

"These Fun Palaces are a fantastic way for everyone from families with children to older people to enjoy art, science, crafts and technology – all for free.

"Lancashire Adult Learning are supporting us to deliver a range of fantastic workshops. Thank you so much to our staff and volunteers who have made these events possible as we celebrate another year of Fun Palaces across the county."
