Cabinet to consider first price increase in nine years at Preston Bus Station car park
Plans to bring charges at Preston Bus Station car park in line with other city centre car parks will be considered by councillors next week.
The proposed increase will contribute towards the cost of providing affordable city centre parking and if approved, will be the first price increase in nine years.
It's also proposed to tighten the existing arrangements for Disabled Parking Bays, Parent and Child Parking Bays and Electric Vehicle Charging Points to allow for effective enforcement.
A formal consultation on the proposals was carried out earlier this year, with one objection received.
A report will now be presented to the county council's cabinet on Thursday 5 June.
County Councillor Warren Goldsworthy, cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said:
"It's been nine years since the last price increase and even with this rise, people can park for up to 12 hours for under a fiver.
"The proposed price increase reflects the market changes to cover increases in associated third party costs and will allow us to continue to provide affordable city centre parking for residents.
"These changes are intended to enhance accessibility and convenience for disabled individuals and families, making it easier for them to find suitable parking spaces."
