Traffic measures approved so Lea bus route can be extended
A bus route that stopped operating in Preston seven years ago will be able to run again once a range of Traffic Regulation Orders are introduced.
The section was withdrawn from the service 31 route due to frequent delays caused by parked vehicles along it.
There have been requests to restore this from residents and the bus operator, Preston Bus, since it was withdrawn.
Councillors approved Traffic Regulation Orders which will allow the service to operate at their Cabinet meeting on Tuesday 19 May.
Restrictions have been kept to a minimum but must be introduced to keep the route clear from parked vehicles and to allow buses to pass through safely.
No Waiting at Any Time parking restrictions will be added on Thorntrees Avenue, Thornpark Drive, Hawthorn Crescent, Parkthorn Road, Campion Drive and The Campions in Lea.
Five Bus Stop Clearways will also be added in the locations mentioned and kerbing which meets accessibility standards will be installed.
The cost of implementing these measures comes from within the Bus Services Improvement Plan budget.
County Councillor Warren Goldsworthy, cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said:
"We are pleased to approve measures that will enable this popular route to return to Lea after years of requests for its revival from residents and the bus operator.
"We hope that by introducing a small number of restrictions then buses will be able to run safely and reliably in this area, while improving accessibility for passengers."
